KeyNote Website

Web Design

Overview

I built a series of high fidelity mockups to inform strategy for redesigning San Diego Youth Symphony's web as the organization rebranded itself as KeyNote.

Web Design

Problem

As San Diego Youth Symphony prepared to rebrand itself as KeyNote, it needed a new website that would not only reflect the new identity but also introduce families and institutions to its wide range of music programs in an easily digestible way.

I initiated this project to inform initial strategy for transforming the previous San Diego Youth Symphony website into an easy to use platform that would inspire community members to get involved in KeyNote's multiple programs.

Research

To outline goals for redesigning the SDYS website, I initiated research by interviewing 6 key stakeholders across departments to understand what goals they had for website functionality and content. I then conducted a series of 5 usability tests to discover key pain points with using the website.

Lastly, I performed a competitive analysis of websites from similar music education groups to learn what design patterns may be effective.

Synthesis

Combining all of my research findings, I determined that the key areas I would prioritize would be the header navigation, homepage, and individual program pages.

Prioritizing program registration and event participation, I revised the Home page architecture to feature a brief introduction to KeyNote and then provide a springboard to learn about its programs. The individual program pages each follow a similar pattern of introducing the program and staff, establishing credibility through testimonials, and then a call to action to register or participate.

Design

Next, I rapidly iterated through a multitude of mid to high fidelity wireframes to illustrate potential layouts for the content outlined in the Information Architecture diagram. I paid close attention to making text concise and implementing space for multiple images to convey information as efficiently as possible.

Reflection

Working on this project was an exciting challenge in user experience design. Through diligent user research, I feel that I successfully identified major pain point and found effective design solutions to manage them.
